What should a hero be like in your eyes? During the 2024, flood in northern Thailand, Chiang Rai, Mae Sa, we can see heroes without superpowers, but with the heart to help each other during times of crisis.
This year, Chiang Rai experienced a major flood in early September 2024. There were flash floods and heavy flooding from September 9 to 12, 2024.
They are the generosity of people in the country, who don’t abandon each other in difficult times. Everyone—from children to the elderly—came together to offer support. Through unity and quick action, communities helped evacuate, provide food, and care for those affected.
Even though they were in trouble themselves, they shared what little they had. Some families, who had only a small amount of food, chose to share it with their neighbors who had less.
Resorts and semi-hotels offering free accommodation
Others offered their small business such as the Silamanee Resort has added 70 beds to provide shelter for flood victims and rescue teams, free of charge.
This resort has also been a hub for delivering supplies to flood victims. Anonymous donors have supported by providing essential items to the flood victims in Mae Sai district, as well as to the organizations helping with the relief efforts
This kindness and deep compassion showed how strong the local communities were, even during hard times. Though they didn’t have many resources, they always had a big heart. People in the community were willing to help each other, even if it meant giving up their own time or belongings.
Rescue teams are true heroes, they are military, police, and king’s soldiers.
This time, let’s see how these heroes have been helping with the flood relief efforts. Rescue teams, including military, police, and volunteers, have been working hard to evacuate people from flooded areas, deliver supplies to isolated communities.
In addition to rescuing residents, they’ve saved pets, transported essential items like food and water, and used specialized equipment such as amphibious vehicles and helicopters to reach remote or dangerous areas. Their dedication truly showcases their heroic efforts during these challenging times.
Some helped rescue pets, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. These actions demonstrated the deep unity and care in the Thai people’s hearts.
One heartwarming sight was the volunteers setting up temporary help centers. Some donated their time to care for the elderly and children. These are supported by the “Doing Good Foundation. (You can see photo more in FB fan page)
This is the beauty of the Thai spirit. The kindness deeply rooted in their hearts brought people together and made them stronger in their recovery.
This kind of sacrifice not only eased physical suffering but also gave people hope and emotional support.
Thai people help both humans and animals, treating them like family members.
There are still victims in remote mountainous areas where roads have been cut off. The military has special units for these situations.
The Army’s Animal Battalion has deployed both personnel and animals to deliver supplies to the residents affected by a mudslide in Pasang Akha Village, Mae Fah Luang Subdistrict, Mae Fah Luang District, Chiang Rai Province. The round trip covers a total distance of 15 kilometers.
The Nueng Choktawee – rescue team went to deliver supplies to several villages. They reached the last village, more than 30 kilometers from Chiang Rai city, where the road was cut off.
The villagers were very happy. They didn’t expect anyone to reach them on the mountain because landslides had blocked the way. The rescue team had to push through muddy paths, cross rivers, and climb steep slopes to get there.
Even a sand truck loader came to help the villagers, but this news wasn’t shown on TV.
The help and support seen during this crisis didn’t come from orders or commands—it came from the kindness and empathy people felt for each other. In Thai society, relationships are built on love and care, and when a crisis hits, unity and sharing come naturally.
These pictures are just a small part of the kindness shown by the people of Thailand.
